About the role
In your role as UI Design Lead you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to to join the Digital team at USS and support them in rebuilding the digital platform.
As UI Design Lead, you will take ownership of the current UI design system and develop this further to fulfil the requirements of our digital aspirations. This will involve creating and evolving a library of reusable components/assets/patterns to support our products and journeys.
You will also be responsible for ensuring all UI requirements across the digital estate are documented and handed off to a third party to support implementation.
Working closely with the UX specialists, you will play your part in bringing together usability and interactive design - evolving the look and feel of the visual touchpoints for any new products/journeys delivered online.
What you will be doing
As a trusted part of the Group Transformation you will be responsible for:
Leading and owning the evolution of the USS UI design system of reusable assets, patterns and components that hosts all the UI rules and requirements. It should cover all various devices, browsers etc. The design system should demonstrate clearly defined standards, so that these reusable components can then be used by the team to shape and build digital products/applications that are visually consistent and harmonious.
1. Evolve the look and feel of the product/application to create a first-class user experience
2. Lead and design the interactive properties of different UI components - establishing what happens when a user clicks a certain button, or what happens when an error message is shown – all the various states and behaviours that are attached to different components
3. Leverage deep industry knowledge and experience to introduce new concepts, ideas and opportunities to a new programme of work, to enhance the existing experience
4. Deliver industry standard collateral to enable you to communicate UI designs to a third party
5. Work collaboratively with other Digital Team members, Propositions and Communication teams, Project Managers, Business Analysts and third-party developers
6. Manage multiple tasks concurrently ensuring UI design work meets deadlines, budgets and quality standards
7. Ensure all design adheres to brand guidelines and meets web accessibility requirements

To be successful in the role you will have:
8. Extensive working experience as a UI Designer
9. Excellent UI design portfolio
10. Knowledge of Adobe creative suite, as well as UX tools such as Figma and Webflow
11. The ability to create wireframes and prototypes
12. Knowledge of fundamental visual design principles, such as typography and colour theory
13. Knowledge and understanding of interaction design principles
14. Knowledge and understanding of information architecture
15. Knowledge and understanding of responsive design
16. Knowledge and understanding of how to design for inclusivity and accessibility
17. Experience of creating and maintaining a UI design system
18. Knowledge and experience of documenting UI requirements
19. Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on company’s success
20. Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
21. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
22. Good time-management skills
