Creative Designer, Print – Wanderlust Magazine

Location: London (with hybrid working)

Hours: Full time

About Wanderlust

Wanderlust is the UK’s longest-running independent travel magazine, championing authentic, meaningful, responsible travel since 1993. Rooted in authentic exploration, our brand champions off-the-beaten-path destinations, responsible travel and immersive storytelling of culture, nature and heritage. As we head into our next chapter, with global reach and digital innovation, we remain unwavering in our mission: to inspire curious travellers, elevate local voices and produce print editions that are as tactile, intentional and memorable as the places we explore.

The role

We are looking for a talented Print Creative Designer to join our creative team and give visual form to our print editions. You will bring to life the magazine’s visual identity in every issue, working on layout, typography, imagery, infographics and special print features, ensuring the design mirrors the magazine’s editorial integrity and travel-passion. You’ll collaborate closely with Editors, the Art Director and commercial teams to produce high-quality, reader-focused print editions that stand apart in an age of digital overload.

Key responsibilities

* Design full magazine layouts (6 issues per year) consistent with the Wanderlust brand voice and visual identity.
* Design destination and/or brand specific bookazines and supplements.
* Develop concepts, feature spreads, photo essays, infographics and special sections (for example travel guides, destination dossiers, “Year of Culture” -style features).
* Work with editors and art director to select and place imagery, type and graphics that reflect our commitment to local culture, authenticity and sustainability.
* Ensure print production hand-off: create print-ready files, liaise with printers, check proofs, manage colour/bleed/trimming and ensure premium print quality.
* Monitor and maintain brand-consistency: typography standards, colour palette, grid systems, image use, cover hierarchy.
* Bring creative ideas for tactile or special print features (e.g., fold-outs, typographic experiments, bespoke paper finishes) that enhance the reader experience and reinforce the value of print.
* Stay current with print design trends, travel-publishing innovation and sustainability best-practice in print production (e.g., eco-papers, CO₂-aware processes).
* Support the Art Director in ad layout/design when required, ensuring synergy between editorial and commercial content without compromising editorial integrity.
* On occasion support the Digital Creative team with digital design projects

What we’re looking for

* Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in magazine or editorial print design (travel, lifestyle or cultural titles preferred).
* Superb proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and affinity with design for print production.
* Strong typographic sensibility, grid discipline, a sharp eye for photography and layout rhythm.
* A love of travel, curiosity about places and cultures, and the ability to translate narrative into visual form. Good understanding of the role of print in a digital age.
* Excellent organisational skills, able to manage multiple layouts and deadlines across an issue. Attention to detail is non-negotiable.
* A collaborative mindset: you’re comfortable discussing ideas with editors, art director and writers, and you value storytelling as much as aesthetics.
* A portfolio that shows creative range, conceptual thinking, editorial design excellence and a clear understanding of brand identity.

Why this role matters

At a moment when print is under pressure but still uniquely meaningful, Wanderlust stands apart. Our printed magazine, supplements and bookazines are not just an information vessel, they are a tangible artefact of travel inspiration. Print allows our readers to pause, absorb, journey visually and emotionally. As we continue to champion local communities, deeper travel experiences and meaningful storytelling, your role will be central to how we connect with readers, build trust and sustain our print legacy.

What we offer

* A role within a trusted and recognised travel media brand with over 30 years’ heritage.
* A chance to shape the look and feel of a magazine committed to meaningful travel, local voices and sustainable storytelling.
* A creative, dynamic environment in London, working with editors, writers and photographers who care deeply about travel and cultural insight.
* Competitive salary (up to £45k/per annum DOE) + benefits, hybrid working.
* The opportunity to bring creative innovation to print – from special features to tactile design.

How to apply

Please send your CV, covering video of 1 minute and a link to your portfolio (or PDF) to elliot@wanderlustmagazine.com with the subject line “Print Designer – Wanderlust Magazine” by the 29th of November. In your covering video, tell us which one issue (of any magazine) you admire the design of, and why, and how you would bring the Wanderlust brand to life in print.
