Community Health and Engagement Officer (CHEO)

Pay: £ 16.47 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday up to 8 hours per day, flexible start time. Permanent, part time to full time.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Health & Engagement Officer to join our Surrey Wheelchair Services in Woking. Ross Care is a fast‑growing business and leading provider of Wheelchair Services across the country, working closely with NHS, Local Authority and Social Care Organisations to provide a complete outsourced service driving high quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote the importance of user lived experience in the company, community and among external stakeholders.
  • Explain the development, recruitment and operation of a service user forum/service improvement board, meeting quarterly to oversee improvement and question local service centre staff.
  • Attend internal meetings to stay up to date with daily operations and advocate for user experience.
  • Attend monthly contract review meetings with the Integrated Care Board.
  • Use input from service users to refine practice and highlight areas needing improvement.
  • Implement improvements following complaints.
  • Gather feedback from service users through formal mechanisms.
  • Support users not eligible for a wheelchair by identifying available options.
  • Assist users navigating the complaints process.
  • Signpost other services (health professionals, social care, MIND, charities, citizens advice, etc.).
  • Network with professionals in other services and with local and national disability organisations to promote knowledge and highlight improvement areas.
  • Use local social media to promote service user engagement.
  • Produce a local newsletter and provide service users with relevant information.

Qualifications

  • Lived experience of vulnerable children and adults, gained through personal or carer use, including experience of wheelchair and other healthcare equipment and services.
  • Experience of strategic and project planning and decision making.
  • Experience managing multiple workstreams with ability to prioritise and organise work effectively.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including demonstrable knowledge and practice of customer care and conflict management.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT skills and ability to contribute to production of communication material aimed at service users.
  • Understanding and willingness to use social media for service user engagement.
  • Marketing/PR experience would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of research and audit processes advantageous.
  • A UK driving licence is essential.
