Job Overview
Exciting opportunity for the individual who wants to join Moorfields Eye Hospital. We are currently looking for a self‑motivated, pro‑active individual with excellent time management and organisational skills to join our Medical Imaging team as Deputy Lead for the Medical Imaging Department.
Main Responsibilities
* Provide senior leadership to the Medical Imaging team at City Road and other sites, ensuring patients receive quality care and an efficient service at all stages of their care.
* Provide advanced knowledge and be highly skilled in the full range of routine and specialised imaging techniques, with expert knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and disease to guide and support the team.
* Support junior staff to develop skills and embed a continuous quality‑improvement culture across the service.
* Act as an exemplar and professional role‑model, embracing core values of excellence, equity and kindness.
* Work clinically and managerially, undertaking day‑to‑day supervision of the team and working with the Head of Department to ensure safe staffing across all sites.
* Supply professional and personal support and assistance to all staff within the department.
* Collaborate with other stakeholders to manage day‑to‑day running of the service.
* Ensure people management is conducted in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, seeking advice and support as necessary.
* Conduct annual staff appraisals, completing appropriate documentation and identifying development needs in line with Trust policy.
* Promote a positive working environment, motivating and communicating with staff through huddles and monthly meetings.
* Organise and manage rosters for the Medical Imaging department, including adult and paediatric photography and ultrasound teams.
* Maintain high skill level in routine and specialised imaging, performing clinical, diagnostic and imaging examinations such as retinal imaging, slit‑lamp imaging, external eye imaging, OCT imaging and anterior‑segment photography.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: Masters degree or equivalent experience in Medical Imaging.
* Essential: Evidence of commitment to CPD.
* Desirable: Management qualification such as DMA or equivalent.
Experience
* Essential: Minimum 5 years performing diagnostics in medical imaging.
* Essential: Minimum 2 years supervising staff, including use of HR policies and procedures.
* Essential: Experience of e‑procurement.
* Essential: Experience working autonomously in a busy clinic environment.
* Desirable: Experience using a full range of IT/Patient Data Systems.
* Desirable: Experience managing e‑rostering.
Skills
* Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills.
* Strong prioritisation and time‑management abilities.
* Excellent oral and written communication.
* In‑depth knowledge of ophthalmic technologies and pathologies.
