Associate Quantity Surveyor (Temporary – AMP8 Infrastructure Framework)
Location: Lancaster / North West UK (site travel possible)
Duration: 6–12 months (with potential extension)
Reporting to: Senior QS / Commercial Manager
The Role
You will be embedded within the commercial team delivering the AMP8 programme for a major utility / infrastructure client. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Assist in the commercial management of civil/utility infrastructure projects under the AMP8 framework (for example water/wastewater network upgrades).
* Prepare and maintain monthly cost/value reports (CVRs), cash-flow forecasts and cost reconciliations.
* Produce interim valuations and final account submissions.
* Manage subcontractor procurement, subcontract orders, change control, variation quantification and cost tracking.
* Interpret and administer contract forms (NEC3/NEC4 preferred) and ensure compliance with contractual procedures.
* Liaise with project delivery teams, client stakeholders and supply chain to monitor progress, cost risk and commercial value.
* Support the senior QS in maintaining contemporaneous records of costs, claims, variations and entitlement maximisation.
* Assist with risk management, budget updates and highlight early warnings of cost/contract exposure.
* Facilitate close-out of subcontractor accounts and support dispute resolution where required.
Requirements
Essential:
* Proven quantity surveying experience in civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure delivery frameworks. (Experience on AMP frameworks is highly desirable.)
* Demonstrable knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/4) and standard construction/utility contract procedures.
* Strong competence in cost/value reconciliation, valuations, cash-flow analysis and commercial reporting.
* Excellent Excel skills and familiarity with commercial systems and reporting.
* Good communication and stakeholder management skills; able to engage with site teams, subcontractors and clients.
* Ability to work in a fast-moving, multi-project environment and effectively prioritise workload.
Desirable:
* Experience within a water utility or similar infrastructure sector (clean water, wastewater, pipelines, pumping stations).
* Experience working under the AMP8 programme or other long-term utility frameworks.
* Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management; working towards or full chartered status (MRICS/ICES).
* Local to Lancashire/North West (commutable to Lancaster) or willing to travel and site-visit as required.
* Exposure to subcontractor procurement and managing multiple package accounts.
