South Central Fleet Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Fleet Workshop Deputy Manager to support the effective running of our busy ambulance fleet maintenance workshops. This strategic operational role ensures vehicles are serviced, repaired and maintained to the highest standards so they remain safe, compliant and ready for frontline emergency response.
As a key member of the workshop leadership team, you will support the Fleet Workshop Manager in delivering high-performance operations, leading staff, monitoring KPIs, maintaining safety and compliance standards, and driving continuous improvement across the workshop environment.
Main duties of the job
* Lead and supervise workshop teams, including technicians and administrators, ensuring strong communication, effective task delegation, and a positive, safety-focused culture.
* Coordinate daily workshop operations, including job scheduling, workflow monitoring, and timely completion of repairs and servicing.
* Support performance management, contributing to staff development, coaching, and Personal Development Reviews (PDRs).
* Monitor KPIs and workshop performance, identifying trends, operational gaps and improvement opportunities.
* Assist with financial oversight, helping manage labour, parts and equipment costs and ensuring efficient resource use.
* Ensure compliance and safety, enforcing health and safety regulations, conducting routine quality inspections, and upholding DVSA roadworthiness standards.
* Support fleet maintenance quality, overseeing vehicle servicing, documentation checks, and preventative maintenance processes.
* Maintain workshop standards, ensuring the environment is clean, safe, well-equipped and audit‑ready.
* Act as deputy to the Fleet Workshop Manager, providing cover during absence and supporting senior decision-making.

* Recognised Professional Qualification

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
