We have an exciting new opportunity for a Communications Intern, working within the Careers, Employability & Opportunity department.
This role is open to all University of Glasgow undergraduate students who’ll be in second, third, fourth or fifth year from September 2026.

This is a paid internship at UofG Salary Scale Grade 3 (£24,685 per annum, pro‑rata).

Job purpose
The Communications Intern (two posts available) will support the Careers, Employability & Opportunity Team in promoting the service to students through engaging, student‑informed content and campaigns. This includes highlighting events, Masterclasses, Student Opportunities Hub internships and other support across both digital and on‑campus channels.
The role will also support in‑person promotional activities and attend events to capture photos, videos and student feedback. From supporting pop‑up campaigns to creating wrap‑up content, the role is hands‑on and creative, playing a key part in helping us tell our story and connect with students.
Responsibilities
Communications
* Generate ideas for communications campaigns to promote events, increase student attendance and raise awareness of the service
* Assist in the design and creation of content, including event promotion and student success stories
* Attend key events to capture photos, videos and student/partner testimonials bringing activity and experiences to life
* With support, produce student‑led content that highlights opportunities (eg internships, part‑time work) and demonstrates their value through real experiences
* Assist with any other communications tasks outlined by the Communications Manager and Senior Student Opportunities Coordinator

The role is a fractional hours contract. We guarantee at least 150 hours of work during the length of the contract. Hours of work will be scheduled on the main campus, nearby locations or remotely between Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 or as to be agreed.

* Plan and organise workload effectively covering various duties and completing them efficiently and accurately
* Plan and organise a varied workload with conflicting priorities drawing on support and guidance as necessary

* Work with relevant managers to decide on the best course of action when dealing with problems arising from event planning and delivery
* Take advice and guidance from relevant managers
Problem solving
* Report any feedback from students to relevant staff to support ongoing efforts in student engagement
Internal/External relationships
* Good working relationships are required with students and University staff; liaise day to day with the Head of Employer Engagement, Communications Manager and Senior Student Opportunities Coordinator
Criteria
E1. Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post gained through working in a similar role. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 4 in English and Mathematics (National 4) or equivalent, and some experience of working in a similar role
E2. Knowledge of Careers, Employability & Opportunity
E3. Knowledge of social media platforms and digital editing tools
E4. Knowledge of how students engage with digital content and communications
E5. University of Glasgow Student during the academic year 2026-27
E6. Good written and verbal communication
E7. Ability to represent the Careers, Employability & Opportunity service positively and professionally
E8. Confident use of digital tools for student communications (eg Canva, Adobe)
E9. Positive self‑starter with a flexible collaborative approach to work
E10. Organised and able to manage multiple priorities
E11. Understanding of policies and procedures relative to the role
E12. Experience using a range of communication methods (digital and in‑person) to engage a target audience
E13. Experience creating or contributing to social media, campaigns or promotional content
E14. Experience working as part of a team
E15. Experience working in a customer‑focused environment
D1. Knowledge of University of Glasgow structure and services
