Teacher of Physical Education with Academic Specialism

We are seeking a talented and inspirational teacher of Physical Education with a specialism in the delivery of Academic PE. GCSE & A Level PE are growing in popularity and the ability to teach this at all levels is an essential part of the role. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to teach across a wide curriculum of games, teams, co-curricular sport & PE. A specialism in the school’s major termly sports would be an advantage. PE is a popular subject for our students at GCSE and A Level, and the department aims to maintain strong examination results and a deep understanding of sport.
The PE Department follows AQA specifications with consistently excellent examination results. In 2025, 52% of GCSE grades were 9-8 and 93% of A Level grades were A*-B.
The PE Department
The PE Department consists of a large team of full and part-time professionals supplemented by professional sports coaches. It is a successful and expanding department that provides a broad, well-balanced curricular and extracurricular programme for sport. Our focus is to nurture each pupil to reach their maximum potential and to help them follow active and healthy lifestyles.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
* To contribute to the effective teaching of GCSE & A Level PE and Games throughout the school and assist with the day-to-day operational demands within the sports faculty.
* To contribute to the development of the curriculum, syllabi, materials and schemes of work for the PE courses.
* To interact professionally with colleagues and establish productive relationships to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the school.
* To contribute to the school’s programme of extra-curricular activities across three terms of sports.
* To coach, officiate and manage individual teams on match days beyond normal school hours including weekends and some evenings throughout the year.
* To undertake appropriate administrative duties to support the operational needs of the faculty as required by the Director of Sport.
* To contribute expertise, enthusiasm and talents to develop each pupil’s full potential within the ethos of the school.
* To participate in appropriate faculty and whole-school meetings.

As a consequence of the Children Act 2006 and KCSIE 2025, all staff appointed to positions at Churcher’s College must undergo a check with the Disclosure & Barring Service. A copy of the School’s Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy and Procedure is available on the website. Two written references will be required and any gaps in employment records will be investigated. It is also necessary for all staff to notify the Headmaster before the appointment of any convictions, or other factors which may be relevant to their employment in a school environment. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be calculated according to experience and responsibility at an appropriate point on the Churcher’s College salary scale. The children of staff are eligible for a fee remission subject to meeting usual entry requirements. A contribution to relocation costs can be claimed subject to the terms of appointment for the post. The successful candidate will begin working at Churcher’s in September 2026.
