We are seeking a proactive and people-focused Head of Food Redistribution to lead the day-to-day operations of a regional surplus food redistribution centre serving communities across Lancashire and Cumbria. This is a purpose-driven leadership role ideal for someone with a strong background in warehouse, logistics, or food operations, particularly within organisations driven by social or community values. The Role You will take ownership of all aspects of the food redistribution operation, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling of surplus food destined for frontline charities and community groups. You will lead and develop a diverse team of staff and volunteers, maintain high operational standards, and drive continuous improvement across the service. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Oversee daily food redistribution activities, including receiving, sorting, storing, and dispatching goods Ensure full compliance with food safety and health & safety legislation Monitor stock control systems, wastage, and delivery planning to meet targets Team Management Lead and support a team of staff and volunteers, creating an inclusive and collaborative working culture Manage rotas, performance, and day-to-day staffing requirements Deliver hands-on coaching and foster a positive working environment Health & Safety & Compliance Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe use of equipment and procedures Maintain accurate reporting of incidents or hazards and promote a proactive safety culture Stakeholder & Community Engagement Build relationships with food suppliers, logistics providers, and community partners Collaborate with other internal teams to deliver joined-up support services Support recruitment and engagement of volunteers Continuous Improvement Identify areas for operational efficiency and service improvements Contribute ideas and align with wider social impact programmes Person Specification Essential Proven experience in food distribution, warehouse, or logistics management Strong leadership and team development skills (including experience managing volunteers) Good knowledge of food safety, health & safety, and compliance practices Excellent planning, communication, and interpersonal abilities IT literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office and stock control systems Full UK driving licence Desirable Experience in the charity, social enterprise, or voluntary sectors Forklift licence (counterbalance or reach) Knowledge of sustainability or food waste reduction initiatives Why Apply?
