About Your Role
Working as part of a small team, you’ll be providing expertise and delivering solutions on a wide range of complex surface water issues using blue-green infrastructure and sustainable drainage practices. You will provide advice and guidance to our clients, and support our engineers within the team. Promoting blue-green infrastructure and SuDS to others within the wider WSP business, as well as applying your technical skills to projects of local and national importance, will also be a challenge your role will undertake.
What You Can Expect
* Provide technical input on urban drainage projects predominantly SuDS and blue-green infrastructure.
* Work on bespoke, and challenging projects.
* Have technical oversight of engineers and consultants, ensuring high-quality outputs.
* Support the development of engineering solutions, from feasibility studies to detailed design and construction.
* Oversee the preparation of reports and supporting drawings, specifications and schedules.
* Develop and maintain excellent client relationships.
* Be multi-disciplinary and client-facing, co-ordinating project meetings both internally and with clients.
* Contribute to the learning of the wider team through knowledge sharing exercises.
* Promote the WSP brand through appropriate industry forums and conferences.
Your Team
As a Principal Engineer you will occupy a pivotal role within the Blue Green Infrastructure team and will have the opportunity to play a part in its ongoing development. The team comprises a mix of engineers with a wide range of industry experience, and services projects across the full spectrum of WSP’s client base.
* Public realm improvement schemes & SuDS retrofit.
* Reviewing engineering designs for urban drainage projects.
* Working on high-profile projects, including HS2, Smart Motorways.
* Helping local authorities prevent flooding to homes and businesses.
* Developing fee proposals and winning work.
* Managing budgets and projects to ensure successful delivery.
* Ensuring the team remains highly skilled, engaged, and motivated to deliver.
What We Look For You To Demonstrate
* A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. civil or environmental engineering, construction, environmental science, geography).
* Sound knowledge in urban drainage design and an ability to check the technical outputs of others prior to issue.
* Experience or understanding of hydraulic modelling, using industry-standard software (e.g. InfoWorks, FLOW).
* A high degree of competence with AutoCAD.
* Familiarity with any industry-standard geographical information systems (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo).
