Qualifications and Skills
* Must be registered with either NMC or HCPC; preferences may vary based on service needs.
* Willingness to undertake further clinical, managerial, and leadership training relevant to management and leadership areas.
* Competent in computer skills.
* Knowledge of staff rostering.
Experience
* Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in a relevant clinical setting.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Experience in clinical audit and service improvement is desirable.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a clinical environment.
* Leadership and management experience within teams.
Role Responsibilities
Communication
The post-holder should demonstrate clear, positive communication skills both verbally and non-verbally. They must provide information succinctly in written and verbal forms, using email appropriately and prioritizing face-to-face or verbal communication when possible.
Leadership and Responsibility
Responsible for leading nursing staff in a ward setting and contributing to the effective functioning of the multidisciplinary team. The post-holder will be a member of the hospital leadership team.
Budget and Resources
Ensure the efficient use of nursing resources and all ward resources that contribute to patient care, including medicines management, equipment, and ward furnishings. Address issues promptly with the Director of Clinical Services and implement corrective actions.
Information Management
Shared responsibility for maintaining the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of patient records and data, ensuring documentation meets regulatory and statutory standards.
Working Environment
The role is based in a ward, involving approximately 60% supernumerary time and 40% clinical activity, with shifts scheduled as required to meet service needs.
