An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader of the Cancer Research Delivery Group (CRDG) at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. This position is a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic Team Leader with significant knowledge and understanding of clinical research in oncology. They should have expert experience of planning, coordinating and conducting cancer clinical trials as well as clinical audits. The applicant should also have excellent communication skills, be able to make decisions, effective management skills and the ability to priorities workload. Experience of training and motivating teams to ensure high standards of quality are maintained in delivering clinical trials as well manage the care and follow up of trial patients, as per regulatory requirement, are essential.

Main duties of the job

The Team Leader is part of the CRDG management team, prime focus of the role is:

* Working with clinical and academic staff in all stages of the development of the cancer research portfolio.
* Improving patient recruitment into clinical trials
* Provide management of a team of Clinical Research Nurses, Clinical Trial Practitioners and Research Administrators.
* Develops strategies for efficient management and delivery of clinical trials
* Ensuring the team meets appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs) and Centre Objectives

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader to work as part of the Cancer Research Delivery Group (CRDG). The Centre is:

·Generously funded by a joint initiative between the Department of Health and Cancer Research UK

·Part of a nationwide network of 18 centers of scientific and clinical excellence

·Aims to drive new anti-cancer treatments to patients

·Affiliated with the National cancer Research Network and thus incorporate Phase I through to Phase IV clinical trials

In bringing together laboratory and clinical patient-based research, our Centre promotes translational work needed to develop new anti-cancer drugs and diagnostics from the laboratory into clinics and then to test them in early phase clinical trials, and develop them into late phase trials.

We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic Team Leader with significant knowledge and understanding of clinical research in oncology. This post is funded on an NHS annual funding cycle. Starting salary will be in the range of £46,148 - £52,809 per annum, exclusive of London Allowance. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points based Immigration Scheme. This position is a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

Person specification

Experience

* Experience of at least 1 year as a Band 6 Clinical Trial Practitioner or Research Nurse in oncology trials. Nursing applicants must be chemotherapy trained.
* Experience in tackling clinical trial recruitment challenges.

Skills

* Ability to lead the allocated tumour group in service improvement and meeting targets.
* Can prove a basic computer literacy in Windows and IT systems
* Ability to plan, allocate and supervise the work of a team providing clear constructive feedback in order to maintain and improve performance
* Ability to prioritise clinical work effectively
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels across the Department and Directorate / Trust / Organisations both written and orally
* Ability to communicate with patients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment and procedures

Knowledge

* Extensive knowledge of GCP and clinical regulations
* Knowledge of costing a clinical trial

Qualifications

* BSc in Scientific, healthcare or related discipline or equivalent experience of operational management of clinical trials within the NHS

Other

* Demonstrate an enthusiastic, approachable and friendly manner
* Willingness to work flexible hours on occasion
