Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Engineer to ensure the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of commercial solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the UK. This hands-on role involves preventative maintenance, fault diagnostics, emergency response, performance optimisation, and client reporting.
You will play a key role in delivering excellent service, maintaining system uptime, and protecting asset value for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
System Maintenance & Support
Perform routine preventive maintenance on commercial-scale solar PV and battery installations.
Conduct electrical inspections, inverter diagnostics, thermal imaging, and system tests.
Carry out remedial works and corrective maintenance to restore system functionality.
Utilise remote monitoring tools to diagnose issues and plan remedial action.
Escalate and resolve persistent technical faults in coordination with the technical team.
System Performance & Reporting
Monitor asset performance against expected outputs using asset management software.
Prepare site visit reports, maintenance logs, and customer-facing documentation.
Recommend performance improvement measures and component upgrades when necessary.
Battery Storage (BESS) Systems
Undertake inspections and testing on commercial BESS installations.
Monitor charge/discharge cycles and assess integration with PV and grid.
Maintain compliance with safety protocols, especially around high-voltage and lithium-ion systems.
Compliance & Health and Safety
Ensure all work adheres to RenEnergys HSEQ standards and UK regulations.
Complete risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for each job.
Maintain records for compliance with NICEIC, MCS, and DNO standards.
Requirements
Essential
City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
Minimum 2 years experience working with commercial solar PV systems.
Familiarity with inverters (e.g., SMA, SolarEdge, Fronius, Huawei) and monitoring platforms.
Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel nationally.
Strong understanding of health & safety in electrical environments.
Desirable
Battery storage system (BESS) experience
C&G 2391 (Testing & Inspection) or equivalent.
Familiarity with monitoring platforms (e.g., Solar-Log, PowerBI, SolarEdge Portal).
IPAF, PASMA, or CSCS accreditation.
G99/G100 knowledge and grid integration experience.
