Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Switchboard Operator to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Operate and manage a telephone switchboard to answer, screen, and direct incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls effectively and professionally.
2. Ensure that all inquiries are promptly and accurately resolved or routed to the appropriate department or personnel.
3. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of operational processes to provide accurate and helpful information to callers.
4. Log and track calls when necessary and provide status updates as required.
5. Assist in emergency communications and prioritize urgent or critical calls in accordance with defined escalation protocols.
6. Update and maintain the directory database regularly to ensure accurate and efficient call routing.
7. Handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional and secure manner.
8. Provide exceptional customer service and clear communication when addressing caller inquiries, requests, or complaints.
9. Follow all operational procedures to ensure proper usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting of switchboard equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
10. 1-3 years of relevant experience operating a switchboard or working in a customer service role.
11. High school diploma or equivalent.
12. Fluency in the English language – including speaking, comprehension, pronunciation, writing, and reading.
13. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to handle high call volumes professionally.
14. Strong problem-solving and multitasking skills to manage multiple incoming calls and prioritize appropriately.
15. Ability to maintain a professional and calm demeanor under pressure during high-stress situations.
16. Basic proficiency in using telecommunication equipment and office-related technology.
17. Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
18. Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
19. Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
Preferred Qualifications:
20. Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
21. Valid country driver’s license and passport.
22. Country visa (as required in line with the Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
23. Experience operating telecommunications systems for a government or military organization.
24. Working knowledge of telecommunications troubleshooting and phone system maintenance.
25. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize high call volumes effectively.
