Overview
Kate Barton is an independent womenswear brand based in Petersfield, known for thoughtful design, small-scale production, and quality craftsmanship.
We're looking for a Junior Management Accountant to support the smooth, day-to-day running of our finance operations — ensuring suppliers are paid on time, stock values are accurate, and our accounts are always up to date.
Working closely with the wider team, you'll play a key role in keeping everything organised behind the scenes — from cashflow tracking and reconciliations to preparing monthly reports that help us plan ahead.
You'll take real responsibility for keeping our financial information clear, accurate, and up to date — making sure everyone in the business has confidence in the numbers they're working from. Your attention to detail will help translate the day-to-day activity of the brand into reliable figures that support decision-making and future planning.
It's a hands-on, detail-driven role suited to someone who enjoys accuracy, structure, and being part of a small, collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bookkeeping & Transaction Management
* Maintain accurate records in Xero, including posting supplier invoices, bank transactions, and journal entries
* Prepare and process weekly supplier payments, ensuring approvals and correct allocations
* Reconcile bank accounts, PayPal, and Shopify Capital transactions
* Monitor and maintain accurate balances across the HSBC overdraft and trade finance facilities
2. Cashflow & Reporting
* Update weekly cashflow forecasts and flag any upcoming shortfalls or timing risks
* Support senior management with month-end reporting
* Prepare summary P&L, balance sheet, and key cash metrics for internal packs
3. Stock & COGS Control
* Work with the production team to track stock values, landed costs, and margins
* Liaise with the warehouse to reconcile Mintsoft stock vs Xero
* Assist with quarterly stock valuations and cost-of-goods journals
4. Compliance & Audit Support
* Support VAT returns, payroll checks, and annual audit prep
* Maintain digital filing for all finance documentation
5. Systems & Process Improvement
* Help refine processes between Xero, Mintsoft, and Shopify
* Identify efficiency improvements or automation opportunities
* Support any system integrations or finance migrations as needed
About You
* Minimum 2 years' experience in an accounts or finance role (retail or ecommerce preferred)
* Proficient in Xero and confident with Excel/Google Sheets
* Organised, reliable, and comfortable working independently
* Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
* Strong communication skills; comfortable liaising across teams and suppliers
Salary & Benefits
* Competitive hourly or day rate (depending on experience)
* Flexible working pattern
