Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a housekeeper role to work in our hospitals.
We are interested in hearing from individuals who are willing to work hard within a strong, friendly team. They will be required to provide a KEY service within the hospital for both staff and patients. The post holders will be responsible for ensuring that the environment is of a high standard and meets the needs of patients and visitors.
The main focus of the post holder is to facilitate the maintenance of a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients. They will work with the ward-based team to ensure patient safety, privacy, dignity, and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.
This is a challenging but rewarding job and would be ideally suited to motivated team players. Housekeeping experience within healthcare and knowledge of COSHH, BICs, colour coding, and infection control is desirable, though not essential, as full training will be given.
Main duties of the job
The housekeeping team at Heatherwood hospital is part of the hotel services department and the Estates and Facilities directorate. The team is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness in all hospital areas. Housekeepers are valued support members helping to ensure that wards are pleasant for patients and staff.

Job responsibilities
* Vacuum/mop sweep/damp mop/spot clean/spray buffing of floor surfaces, using machinery as required.
* High and low dusting (including skirting boards, window ledges, curtain rails, notice boards, picture frames, furniture, doors, and door stays).
* Vacuuming carpeted areas, daily removal of spots or stains, and shampooing carpets using machinery on supervisor instruction.
* Collection and tagging of all rubbish, removing bags, clinical waste bins, sharps bins, and flattened cardboard containers to designated collection points.
* Ensure waste is correctly segregated and placed into locked containers as per Trust policy.
* Replace bags on stands/containers with the correct colour code, ensuring containers are clean.
* Damp dust lockers, over-bed tables, chairs, beds, ledges, over-bed lights, pipes, radiators (remove cages as instructed), and bed and locker wheels.
* Attend to deep clean requests throughout the hospital.
* Damp dust and polish desks, furniture, and fittings at nurse stations, in offices, day rooms, and other ancillary rooms.
* Damp clean all office equipment, e.g., telephones.
* Clean baths, showers, and hand basins; polish chromium fittings.
* Clean lavatories inside and outside the bowl, including seat, handle, cistern, and surrounding area, including sanitary bins.
* Ensure lavatory brushes and holders are thoroughly cleaned after use.
* Replenish paper hand towels, toilet rolls, hand soap, hand cream, and hand gel dispensers.
* Ensure all containers are clean inside and out.
* Clean and polish mirrors and glass on doors and partitions.
* Sanitise light switches, electrical sockets, and electrical trunking.
* Remove spots and splashes from paintwork on doors and walls.
* Assist with curtain changing.
* Clean infected rooms as instructed by ward staff and following infection control procedures.
* Maintain cleaning equipment in a hygienic condition and adhere to storage guidelines. Report faulty electrical equipment immediately.
* Monitor stock control.
* Carry out follow-up cleaning of surfaces contaminated by body fluids, after initial cleaning by nursing staff.
* Assist with catering duties, such as preparing and serving breakfast and drinks, collecting and changing water jugs, and assisting with patient meal services in the absence of the ward host.
* Respect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
* Undertake any reasonable requests from Supervisors/Managers.
