Senior Process Engineer - Balfour Beatty Alliance
Location: Peterborough
Alliance is a ground-breaking collaboration between Anglian Water and seven industry-leading partners: Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska, and SWECO. Together, we deliver over half of Anglian Water's capital investment programme.

We are seeking a talented Senior Process Engineer to drive bold, creative solutions and help us exceed our ambitious targets.
As Senior Process Engineer, you will lead the technical direction for water treatment and supply projects, ensuring all designs comply with current legislation and standards. You will provide expert design support across multiple schemes and work closely with stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver value-driven, fit-for-purpose solutions on time, within budget, and at the highest quality. You will review and approve process design deliverables, enforce adherence to procedures, and mentor junior engineers to foster continuous development.
What you'll be doing
Key responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with Principal Engineers and Design Managers to plan and review upcoming projects and milestones.
2. Coach and mentor junior process engineers, promoting growth and excellence.
3. Champion sustainable, low-carbon design principles across all projects.
4. Ensure compliance with all relevant process standards, regulations, and Anglian Water requirements.
5. Review and verify Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, 3D models, mass balance, sizing, and hydraulic calculations.
6. Validate critical process documentation, including design bases, flow diagrams, control philosophies, and commissioning strategies.
7. Identify and communicate design lessons learned and develop alerts for continuous improvement.
8. Support the technical management within the Alliance frameworks.
9. Conduct site visits as necessary to inform design and delivery.
10. Share technical insights and lessons learned across the alliance to drive innovation.
11. Embrace and implement new digital technologies to achieve fully attributed 3D models.
12. Promote carbon reduction and enhance natural capital within design practices.
13. Maintain and share up-to-date portfolio knowledge across the process engineering team.
Who we're looking for
1. Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience demonstrating degree-level knowledge.
2. Chartered status or active pursuit thereof is preferred.
3. Proven experience in water-sector assets, capital projects, or design-build environments.
4. Strong track record mentoring and developing junior engineers.
5. A passion for sustainable design and innovation.
