The role
Planning Lawyer - Oxford (Local Authority role) Contract role Hourly rate negotiable 37 hours per week - Hybrid working Planning Lawyer required to provide cover while permanent recruitment activity undertaken to fill vacant role. To perform in an effective, timely, courteous, professional and flexible manner the duties of a qualified lawyer. To provide efficient, effective and pragmatic legal advice and assistance to the Council and other clients. To personally represent the Council and other clients before the courts, tribunals and public inquiries. To work effectively with officers and members of the Council and with other clients. To attend, provide legal advice and assistance to and prepare reports for officer and member meetings (including evening meetings) of the Council and other clients. To advise upon, draft and negotiate the full range of legal documents (e.g. s257 stopping up orders, s106 agreements) without supervision. To advise on and draft complex S106 obligations/agreements. To advise on applications (including planning applications, CLEUD/ CLOPUD applications) and enforcement procedures. To advise in relation to planning appeals and enforcement appeals To have conduct of Planning Inquiries, s288/ 289 challenges and / or applications for judicial review. To advise on the interpretation of planning policy and or the development and promotion of planning policy. To promote the service and seek opportunities to do legal work for external clients. To support, mentor, coach and generally develop colleagues in planning legal work. To provide professional supervision and monitor and manage the full range of planning legal work. To contribute effectively to the implementation, development and maintenance of the Lexcel Practice Management Standard (including the Quality Manual) and to other quality assurance programmes, including Investors in People and Customer Service Excellence, across the Service. To use effectively the Legal Services case management system (including the full suite of modules) the deeds management system and other corporate and local systems and applications.
