Job Purpose
The School Caretaker is responsible for ensuring the school premises are safe, secure, clean, and well maintained, creating a welcoming environment that supports effective teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities
Site Security & Safety

Open and lock the school site, ensuring buildings are secure at all times.
*
Monitor alarms, CCTV, and security systems, responding to any issues.
*
Carry out regular health and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, and risk assessments.
Maintenance & Repairs
*
Undertake minor repairs and maintenance (e.g., painting, plumbing, carpentry).
*
Oversee and liaise with external contractors for major works and servicing.
*
Ensure the upkeep of outdoor areas, playgrounds, and pathways.
Cleaning & Hygiene
*
Support the cleaning team as required, ensuring high standards of cleanliness.
*
Monitor stock levels of cleaning and hygiene supplies.
*
Ensure safe disposal of waste and recycling.
General Duties
*
Set up rooms for meetings, assemblies, and school events.
*
Move furniture and equipment as needed.
*
Take responsibility for energy efficiency, ensuring lights and heating are used appropriately.
*
Support staff and visitors with access to the site and facilities.
Person Specification
Essential:

Experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities role.
*
Practical skills in DIY/repairs.
*
Awareness of health and safety procedures.
*
Reliability, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.
*
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
*
Experience working in a school or similar environment.
*
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
*
Basic IT skills for logging jobs and completing compliance checks
