Role details:
Our client, a leading defence supplier, is looking for a Mass Properties Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. This position can be based at Barrow-in-Furness, Bristol, Portsmouth or Frimley (Relocation packages available, subject to meeting eligibility criteria).
Role responsibilities:
1. Collate mass property data for equipment and systems to deliver weight and centroid control on multi billion pound programmes
2. Support the Mass Properties Lead to aggregate weight and centroid reports and present the status to the Chief Naval Architect
3. Collaborate with system design engineers to accurate estimate mass, centroid and design maturity of multiple mechanical and electronic systems
4. Maintain a comprehensive database of parts mass properties
5. Provide input to and lead weight saving strategies and maintain the list of weight risk and opportunities for each discipline area
6. Interrogate CAD models to determine estimates for mass properties with associated uncertainties
7. Utilise statistical analysis to provide a whole boat picture of weight risk and opportunity to senior leaders, stakeholders and our customers
What we are looking for in you:
8. Qualified in STEM subject or extensive experience
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
10. IT literate in Microsoft packages, experienced knowledge in Excel
11. Ability to understand and interpret engineering data
Desirable skills:
12. Experience working with large, Electrical or Mechanical systems
13. Data analysis experience including interpretation, visualisation, manipulation and presentation
14. Experience of using CAD packages and programmes
15. CEng/IEng status or a clear pathway to achieving professional recognition
