Job summary
The Department of Healthcare for Older People provides comprehensive services for older patients both in hospital and in community settings. We are committed to improving the lives of older patients living with frailty and multiple co‑morbidities.
Key responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality inpatient and outpatient care for older adults, including weekly specialist clinics (PD, continence, falls, frailty, community and rehabilitation).
* Cover 7 days a week on‑call for HCOP wards and clinical areas, sharing weekend ward cover with GIM colleagues.
* Provide clinical supervision of resident medical doctors and contribute to teaching, examination, accreditation and CPD duties.
* Lead audit programmes, morbidity and mortality, clinical governance and learning from deaths.
* Assist in formulation, implementation and monitoring of the specialty Business Plan and engage with internal and external agencies.
* Exercise professional leadership for all staff, fostering projects to maintain post‑qualification professional education.
* Maintain infection prevention and control policies, hand hygiene, personal and environmental hygiene, and patient safety interventions.
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent. Entered on the GMC Register, CCST in geriatric and general internal medicine.
* Expected to obtain CCT in GIM and Geriatric Medicine within six months of interview.
Experience
* Eligible for inclusion on the GMC specialist register in geriatric medicine and general acute medicine.
* Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to the medical care of older adults.
* Comprehensive clinical experience of geriatric and general acute medicine.
* Record of research or clinical audit interest relating to acute care of older patients, evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications or formal reports.
