Overview

Education and Eligibility

Education required: Currently studying an Undergraduate Degree in Electrical Engineering

Other requirements: You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK or ROI university for the duration of your placement.

If you have already graduated with a bachelor’s degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

Expected Start date: July 2026

Duration: 1 year (approximately)

Salary: A salary of £25,400 plus a bonus.

Workplace Arrangements: Full time on site required


Roles


Role 1 – Ware

Overview of the Department

The Ware Utilities and Facilities Capital Projects Team are responsible for the delivery of investments and upgrades across the campus, including manufacturing and R&D infrastructure from inception through to closeout. We deliver approximately £30m per annum in site investment, with opportunities for varied projects.

Key Placement Learnings

* Assist in the planning and execution of capital projects, including site expansions, facility upgrades, and equipment installations.
* Support project managers in developing project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
* You will have the opportunity to lead your own project activities.
* Conduct research and gather data to support project feasibility studies and risk assessments.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
* Participate in site inspections, safety audits, and quality control checks.
* Prepare and present project reports, status updates, and technical documentation.


Role 2 – Worthing

Overview of Department

No two days are the same within the electrical department. Activities range from designing and organising the installation of a new VSD with motors to preparing for a new substation with switchgear. The Worthing site is actively investing in electrification of services and sustainable energy projects, including PV arrays and new substations.

In addition to LV/HV infrastructure works, ongoing projects aim to improve safety-critical services such as fire alarm systems. The team supports internal Manufacturing, Packaging and Utilities departments, and coordinates with sub-contractors on capital projects and maintenance tasks.

Key Placement Learnings

* Investigating new engineering technologies to improve plant and maintenance techniques.
* Development and implementation of maintenance best practice.
* Supporting delivery of electrical installations, remedial and improvement works.
* Specifying new equipment and components.
* Performing root cause analysis investigations and contributing to safety and quality risk assessments.
* Carrying out continuous improvement activities to ensure good manufacturing practice.
* Hands-on experience in testing, preventive and corrective maintenance, and commissioning of medium and low voltage switchgear.
* Working with a leading energy distributor on the design, installation, and delivery of a new 11 kV distribution system.
