SEND HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) – Full-Time (Temporary, Potential to Extend)

Hays Education is working in close partnership with a specialist secondary provision in the Stockport area that supports students aged 11–16 with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, autism spectrum conditions (ASC), and other complex learning profiles. The school is known for its inclusive, trauma-informed approach and its commitment to helping every student thrive both academically and emotionally.

The school offers a structured and supportive environment with small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratios, and a strong focus on personalised learning and emotional wellbeing. Staff collaborate closely to deliver a curriculum that balances academic progress with life skills and personal development.


Your New Job

We are seeking a skilled and passionate SEND HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) to join the school’s team on a full-time basis, starting in September 2025 or earlier if available. This is a temporary role for the first term, with the potential to be extended depending on performance and school needs. As a SEND HLTA, you will:

* Support teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4
* Lead small group interventions and occasionally deliver lessons in the teacher’s absence
* Work closely with the SENCO and class teachers to implement individual education plans (IEPs)
* Provide tailored support to students with a range of SEND, including SEMH and ASC
* Use positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement
* Help create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment


What You'll Need to Succeed

* HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience
* Proven experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly SEMH or ASC
* Strong communication, teamwork, and behaviour management skills
* A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting learning
* An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
