Infrastructure Operations Engineer, Sovereign Operations, South-West (Wiltshire)
Location: London, UK (Satellite site in South West (Wiltshire) with occasional travel to London). Must be a British citizen to meet compliance and security clearance requirements. This is an on‑site position requiring a standard five‑day per week schedule in the office.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field such as Computer Networking, Information Security, or equivalent practical experience.
* 3 years of experience in security engineering, DevSecOps or platform engineering roles.
* Experience with deployment and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, OpenStack, Puppet, Chef, Salt, Ansible, Jenkins).
* Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems internals and administration, or networking and debugging/troubleshooting.
* Previous or currently active UK Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.
Preferred qualifications
* Experience designing, building, and deploying cloud-based solution architectures.
* Experience with standard IT security practices (encryption, certificates, key management and use of HSMs or other specialist security equipment).
* Ability to execute in a customer‑focused environment and advocate for partners and customers in a cross‑functional organization.
* Ability to work on a team to design processes, implement projects that solve business problems, and lead or work with cross‑functional groups.

The UK Sovereign Operations team in Google Public Sector delivers, operates, and secures private cloud services. As an Infrastructure Operations Engineer, you will help deploy and operate private cloud services for critical customers in the UK. You will work with a range of technologies, deploying new infrastructure as our deployments scale, rolling out new features and updates, troubleshooting problems, and managing incidents. You will automate common tasks, manage incidents, and conduct blameless retrospectives to avoid repetitive issues. You will collaborate with local support staff and reach back into Google’s product teams when needed. You will maintain playbooks to aid teams worldwide and drive the success of Google Cloud by understanding and advocating customers’ issues. The role may require non‑standard work hours and participation in an on‑call rotation.
Responsibilities
* Build, configure, and deploy new compute, network, storage and specialist security infrastructure, ensuring correct configuration and bringing it into service using standard playbooks from Google product teams.
* Resolve escalations and issues, improve the customer experience, and drive initiatives.
* Manage health and performance of the environment using observability tools, carry out maintenance and updates to roll out new features and keep the platform secure.
* Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation for incident response escalation within response and on‑site Service Level Agreements (SLA).
* Provide technical implementation support in customer environments, including guidance on implementation and feasibility of cross‑product integrations.
