PSI supply specialist equipment designed and manufactured in-house for the Advanced Materials industry, our technology is sold throughout the world and offers customers research or production scale machines to process feedstock material into a range of high value-added products for the aerospace, defence, and general engineering sectors.
As a Strategic Purchasing Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping procurement strategy. Focusing on achieving the best value through supplier performance, sourcing strategies, and long-term relationship management.
Main Responsibilities & Duties:
* Take ownership of the entire procurement process, from receipt of specification, cost analysis, ordering and quality control, through to supplier relationship management.
* Understand engineering drawings
* Have a comprehensive understanding of product specification with the knowledge to support re-engineering in support of cost & value.
* Possess manufacturing knowledge to optimise the most efficient product specifications to deliver competitive cost of goods.
* Ability to source parts globally
* Negotiate prices with suppliers to secure favourable deals on materials or products
* Negotiate lead times with suppliers and manage the production of finished items to ensure timely delivery
* Build and maintain strong relationships with global suppliers
* Develop and maintain a database of supplier performance metrics to ensure quality, delivery, and cost goals are met.
* Maintain cost-effective solutions while upholding product specifications and quality standards.
* Proactively identify and resolve invoice queries to maintain smooth financial transactions when required.
* Balance customer preferences, market demand, and profitability
* Optimise costs while maintaining quality standards.
* Place orders with suppliers based on business requirements
* Monitor order delivery schedules, follow up on any delays and communicate these with the relevant departments.
* Ensure timely receipt of materials
Required Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience as a Technical Buyer or a similar procurement role, within a technical manufacturing environment.
* Strong technical understanding of components, materials, and manufacturing processes.
* Strong negotiation skills, coupled with excellent communication and analytical abilities.
* The ability to work across functionally with other departments.
* Capable of performing effectively under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
The role is based at PSI’s Hailsham site but will involve occasional UK and overseas visits in support of our worldwide customer base. Due to the nature of the work this role cannot be fulfilled by working on a remote basis.
Essentials:
Full UK Driving Licence and ability to travel globally as required

37.5 hour working week
