Job Title: Matron for Acute Medicine
Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is a large provider of acute services, serving a population of over 750,000 in outer North East London. The trust operates from two sites: Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital.
We are seeking a highly motivated, responsible individual with a strong sense of accountability to fulfill the role of Matron for Acute Medicine.
The ideal candidate will be supportive, promoting teamwork and nurturing a positive culture. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively while leading are essential.
Applicants should have a proven track record of managing people and experience in similar clinical environments. Acute medicine is a fast-paced, multi-specialty division with a diverse patient demographic.
This role offers an opportunity to lead on patient safety and experience, with a focus on nursing and service development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide visible, accessible leadership to all clinical areas within the designated responsibility.
2. Ensure adherence to professional nursing standards within wards and departments, providing senior nursing support as needed.
3. Lead and support the delivery of the Clinical Nurse Specialist agenda.
4. Support the Divisional team in managing patient flow and clinical care pathways to ensure efficiency, productivity, and safe, effective care.
5. Assist in delivering NHS constitutional standards applicable to the division.
6. Support the Director of Nursing in improving patient experience quality.

Our main sites are KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford, with busy emergency departments serving over 330,000 visitors annually. We are actively campaigning for funding to transform the A&E at Queen’s Hospital.
Our services include Women’s Health Hub in Ilford, Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch, and Community Diagnostic Centres providing extensive imaging services, benefiting thousands annually.
