Responsibilities
* Operate the cellular pathology service in partnership with senior and lead BMS colleagues.
* Manage allocated laboratory sections and supervise staff.
* Deliver routine and specialist cellular pathology service for UHS Sussex East.
* Conduct manual and automated laboratory investigations across all sections on a rotational basis.
* Manage workflow to ensure optimal allocation of staff and resources.
* Execute daily routine histology tasks: biopsy cut‑up, microtomy, embedding, special stains, frozen sections and quality control.
* Maintain laboratory instrumentation to a high standard, troubleshoot malfunctions and manage specialist equipment and reagents.
* Perform analytical work applying specialist knowledge per SOP; review, implement and modify SOPs as appropriate.
* Monitor consumable and reagent stocks, advise on deficiencies and place orders as delegated.
* Validate requests prior to processing; monitor and interpret internal quality control samples to ensure accuracy and precision; initiate corrective actions.
* Conduct external quality assurance analyses and coordinate External Quality Assessment samples with scheme organisers, evaluate results and initiate remedial actions.
Health and Safety
* Conduct risk assessments, prepare COSHH forms, perform audits and deliver staff training.

The role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route, subject to meeting UKVI requirements.
