About Us
Microtech Ceramics Limited is a start-up company developing and commercialising next-generation ceramic membrane technologies. Our membranes aim to disrupt industries such as water treatment and carbon capture by delivering sustainable, high-performance filtration systems. As we scale our manufacturing operations, we are hiring a technician to support hands-on-development and day-to-day lab operations.
Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Technician to assist with the production, testing, and development of ceramic membranes. You will work closely with our small team of scientists in both lab and workshop settings, performing tasks that support manufacturing process development, material handling, and quality assurance. The necessary training will be provided, and you will gain exposure to ceramic processing as we scale manufacturing. This is an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic start-up environment where your work will directly influence the product performance and production capability.
Key Responsibilities
· Production and lab support: prepare, mix, and handle ceramic slurries, binders, and powders. Set up and run extrusion trials under the direction of others. Bundle fibres, prepare green elements, and support controlled burnout and sintering.
· Testing and quality: operate test rigs. Carry out routine QC checks such as permeability or throughput, porosity or density, dimensional and visual inspection. Label, track, and store samples correctly.
· Equipment care: operate and look after kilns, ovens, mixers, grinders, pumps, balances, and tools. Perform basic cleaning, maintenance, and calibration checks.
· Data and documentation: record run conditions, timings, weights, and outcomes accurately in the database. Complete batch records, equipment logs, and checklists. Report anomalies promptly.
· Housekeeping: set up and clean lab and workshop areas, keeping consumables and tools organised to high hygiene and safety standards.
· Logistics: assist with packing and shipping of test samples or finished parts. Support goods in, stock counts, and simple procurement as needed.
· Safety: follow risk assessments, SOPs, and PPE requirements. Participate in equipment checks and raise hazards or near misses without delay.
· Teamwork: work closely with a small team of scientists on daily plans and trials, supporting ad hoc tasks typical of a start-up.
