Job Title: Commissioning Project Engineer Job ID: 36623 Location: Stone, Stafford Salary: Up to £52,000 (based on skills, training and competence) Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday) within core hours Contract/Permanent: Permanent Site Based/Office/Remote: Split across Staffordshire and Cheshire offices, with regular travel to client sites across the UK (Home Base: Stone, Stafford) Start Date: ASAP Job Overview: We're seeking a Commissioning Project Engineer to act as a key interface between Project Delivery and Commissioning, ensuring seamless project transitions, preparation and validation of all systems and components prior to commissioning or FAT handover, ensuring all related test and quality documentation is complete and system quality checks have been performed prior to equipment and systems leaving the facility, in line with the company quality management system and maintaining strict safety, compliance, and environmental standards. This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent coordination abilities. Primary duties: Readiness Assurance: Collaborate with all key project stake holders (project managers, delivery teams, manufacturing, etc.) to ensure that systems are fully installed, tested and meet all pre-commissioning requirements. Commissioning Interface: Act as the primary liaison between the project delivery and commissioning teams, identifying gaps or delays within build completion, electrical, hazardous area and pressure testing completion, documentation completeness that could impact on commissioning commencing. Documentation Management: Review and verify the completeness and accuracy of commissioning packs, as-builts, RAMS, test certificates, and operational documentation ahead of commissioning commencement. Functional Testing Support: Participate in or oversee pre-functional testing (e.g., loop checks, pressure testing, valve sequencing) to confirm systems are operable and safe. Schedule Alignment: Ensuring realistic scheduling of commissioning works, support in resolving commissioning scheduling issues and resolving potential bottlenecks early. Stakeholder Coordination: Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, clients, internal stakeholders and teams to ensure systems are tested and validated prior to commissioning. Issue Resolution: Identify and troubleshoot technical or procedural issues during the pre-commissioning phase to minimise delays. Quality Control: Support quality assurance efforts and ensure that delivered systems meet company and client expectations. Risk & Safety Oversight: Proactively identify commissioning risks and participate in risk assessments, and readiness reviews. Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned to refine delivery-to-commissioning handover processes on future projects. Secondary duties: Attend all required company & department meetings Attend all training courses relevant to the position Undertake any other ad-hoc duties within your skill set as directed Provide support to the Sales office both technically and for planning and costing new project enquiries Support the activities of the wider Engineering, Projects and Service & Commissioning Departments Essential skills: Bachelor's degree or equivalent HNC/HND in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, controls or related discipline) or equivalent practical experience. 3 years of experience in project engineering, commissioning, field engineering within gas infrastructure or energy projects or a similar technical role. Demonstrable knowledge of control systems, experience in pas metering principles and instrumentation. Strong familiarity with UK gas industry codes and compliance requirements. Proficient in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and schedules. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Proactive problem-solver with attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality outcomes. Experience working on National Gas or local gas distribution network (GDN) projects. Familiarity with metering validations, analyser calibrations and performance evaluations and relevant commissioning specifications. Understanding of gas analysis systems, analysers, metering systems and biomethane injection systems. Competence with commissioning tools or project platforms.
