We are a 28 bedded Cardiology/Endocrine ward based at Royal Preston Hospital. Ward 18 benefits from the highly sub speciality expertise in Cardiology/Endocrine with staff being able to expand knowledge with multiple training opportunities available.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and highly motivated nurse with a good knowledge of Cardiology/Endocrinology medicine to join our existing team. You must have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills in order to maintain and develop the team further. In addition to direct patient care the role will involve supporting ward staff.
This is a great opportunity to broaden your skills and knowledge and gain experience with team management and leadership.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service or team
2. Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines
3. Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
4. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
5. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
6. Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
7. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
8. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
9. Promote provision of patient education and health promotion
10. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
11. Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
12. To participate in education and training of junior staff
13. Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
14. Appropriate NMC Registration
15. Diploma or Degree in Nursing
16. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
17. Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality
Desirable criteria
18. Degree
19. Post registration qualification in area of speciality area
Knowledge and Expereince
Essential criteria
20. Evidence of leadership experience and learning.
21. Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
22. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice
23. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
24. Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
