Job overview Together we deliver compassionate, safe care every day and we are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated radiographer to join and be a part of our friendly team. As a new starter you will be provided with a full induction program and allocated a mentor to aid your transition from being a student to a qualified radiographer. In addition, you will have a named preceptor to support you through the preceptorship program. We also have Practice Educators to support both our students and radiographers with their training requirements. Our band 5 training schedule includes all general areas of radiography, digital fluoroscopy and CT. Other training opportunities will be available to you as they arise. Funded opportunities for CPD are well supported by the department and these include the IV Cannulation and Red Dot courses. The department comprises general x-ray, A&E x-ray, MRI, Ultrasound, a fluoroscopy unit, an interventional suite, a maxillo-facial unit (including cone beam CT capabilities), and digital mammography. We have 4 CT scanners: a Siemens Somatom, a GE Revolution, a GE Evo and a GE Frontier. We also have community sites providing plain film imaging and Ultrasound at Cranleigh, Haslemere (minor injuries unit), and Milford, as well as a Community Diagnostic Centre providing us with another GE Revolution CT scanner, and 2 additional MRI scanners. Advert All radiographers have the opportunity to contribute to the training of our students from St George’s, University of London, and University of Brighton. We are a 570 bed modern acute hospital situated in the historical town of Guildford. The Trust provides a comprehensive service, with national referrals to several of its specialities. We form one of the four cancer units which make up the Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire Cancer Network. To work as part of a multidisciplinary team that undertakes all diagnostic radiographic procedures To participate in 7 day working roster which includes in out of hours duties; at all times they will be expected to work within protocols Demonstrate levels of responsibility and initiative which support junior staff and students Be responsible for own CPD and professional and personal development. The post holder will undertake diagnostic examinations in accordance with IR(ME)R and department protocols: • to be responsible for the authorisation and justification of examinations for plain film imaging relevant to the post • to produce images of diagnostic quality using the lowest possible dose Working for our organisation Royal Surrey is a compassionate and collaborative acute and community Trust. A video about the Royal Surrey - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R96pMboIYdo Detailed job description and main responsibilities To independently assess and justify examinations under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations IR (ME) R 2000 To perform imaging examinations at a consistently high technical and professional standard of work, and to evaluate the clinical quality of images produced Assess, prioritise and organise own workload within assigned area and work within own professional scope of practice Work independently when providing a standby and on-call service to patients requiring urgent imaging due to trauma or acute illness Prioritise own workload, depending on the severity of a patient condition and the direct impact on their assessment, diagnosis and /or management Be responsible for maintaining accurate patient records Supervise junior members of staff, students and support personnel as required. Teach, assess and report on (for the university) student Radiographers competence on a range of complex diagnostic procedures Following attendance of a ‘Red Dot’ course and in line with departmental protocol identify areas(s) of abnormality/ trauma on accident & emergency referral images Undertake any duties assigned by the management team commensurate with the post. Ensure all infection control standards are adhered to & high levels of cleanliness are maintained. Ensure that equipment faults/ safety hazards are reported promptly and appropriate action taken Participate in audit and Quality Assurance programmes, as requested Participate in Clinical trials and new equipment evaluation, as requested Comply with the implementation of National standards and policies such as: Health & Safety, including risk assessment and COSHH Radiation Protection Procedures Ionisation Radiation Medical Exposures) Regulations 2000 IR (ME) R-2000 Observe & apply Trust policies, departmental protocols, care group risk management strategy, data protection, Equal opportunities and Codes of practice
