To manage your own caseload of inpatients and outpatients with supervision from senior Speech & Language Therapists, focusing on acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders related to a range of post-surgical conditions, including head and neck cancer.
Main duties
You will be part of a team of clinicians working in the acute surgical team and with the head and neck caseload, within a close multi-disciplinary team. Post-graduate dysphagia training and competencies will be supported, and you will have ongoing opportunities to observe and support our SLT-led videofluoroscopy clinics and our FEES service. You will join a dynamic, supportive department in a large tertiary teaching centre with first class facilities. You will have access to highly specialist colleagues in areas such as stroke, elderly medicine, head & neck, neurosurgery and critical care. We will support you with the completion of NQP competencies, ensuring regular individual supervision as well as peer support and other CPD opportunities. Responsibilities and opportunities
To work within the Speech & Language Therapy Team to provide an efficient and effective service in line with the guidance of the Clinical Lead Speech & Language Therapists, the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, the Health and Care Professions Council, and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. To manage own caseload of inpatients and outpatients with supervision from senior Speech & Language Therapists who have acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders after post-surgical conditions, including head and neck cancer.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Degree in SLT or equivalent
* Registered with HCPC (or application lodged)
Desirable
* Member of RCSLT
* Postgraduate qualification in dysphagia, or working towards
Experience
* Clinical experience of acquired communication and swallowing disorders
* Experience of multidisciplinary working
* Experience of working in acute in-patient settings
Desirable
* Member of communication and/or dysphagia Clinical Excellence Network (CEN)
