We have an exciting opportunity to work within the respiratory service at Royal Brompton Hospital as a Respiratory-Oncology CNS, working alongside the multi professional clinical and medical team, Cancer MDT Coordinators, Macmillan Thoracic-Oncology CNS's, Macmillan Registered Nurse Associate and Lead Nurse for Cancer, to deliver a supportive nursing service for patients and their families undergoing diagnostics and investigations for cancer conditions as part of the Joint Thoracic Service with the Royal Marsden Hospital.
This is a part-time position within the cancer nursing team based at Royal Brompton Hospital working as part of the Joint Thoracic Service with the Royal Marsden Hospital. The post holder in partnership with members of the multidisciplinary nursing, medical and management team will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care across the two hospitals. They will act as a specialist and demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients through the pathway and between both hospital sites.

Main duties of the job
1. The post holder will work with Respiratory Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Registered Nurse Associate alongside the Lead Cancer Nurse as part of the Cancer Nursing Team. To deliver a supportive nursing service for patients and their families undergoing diagnostics, investigations and treatment for suspected or confirmed cancer conditions at Royal Brompton as part of the Joint Thoracic Service with the Royal Marsden Hospital.
2. The post holder will be a core member of the Royal Brompton Hospitals Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), contributing expert nursing opinion. However, a key aspect of the role is ensuring continuity for patients referred for specialist care, by liaison with referring centres and healthcare professionals.
3. The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of patients and will act as “Key Worker”. They will be responsible for proactive management of these patients, providing a link while patients are at home and ensuring necessary onward referrals are in place.
4. The post holder will act as a role model and a leader to all staff dealing with complex situations, initiating treatment, and taking action where appropriate.
5. The post holder will demonstrate a wide of range of nursing expertise in areas of specialist nursing care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work with colleagues and the Lead Nurse for Cancer to deliver a supportive nursing service for patients and their families
undergoing treatment and investigations for cancer conditions at Royal Brompton Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospital.
The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines and contribute to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues across the Joint Thoracic Service in collaboration with the Royal Marsden Hospital. Ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles.
The successful candidate will play a key role in providing individualised care to our patients and their families/carers through Inpatient and Outpatient Care, Holistic Needs Assessments and Follow-Up. The role will involve working closely with the Pleural CNS and Lung CNS's at the Royal Marsden to support patients throughout the Respiratory-Oncology pathway and provide cross-cover to the pleural service when required.
The post holder will hold a honorary contract with the Royal Marsden Hospital to support the cross covering of CNS workforce for the Joint Thoracic Service.
