Senior Fluids Modelling EngineerFull-Time, PermanentInchinnan or Aberdeen, Scotland
The RoleJoin our newly established Modelling & Simulation Team and play a key role in shaping the future of engineering across all three James Fisher and Sons divisions - Maritime, Defence and Energy. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a growing, forward‑thinking capability from day one, applying advanced modelling and simulation to high‑impact projects across the entire group.
In this role, you will focus on fluids and thermal modelling, using cutting‑edge tools to tackle complex challenges, predict system performance, optimise designs, accelerate testing, and deliver insights that drive confident, data‑led decision‑making. This opportunity can be based in either of our offices in Inchinnan or Aberdeen.
What you'll be doing
- Develop models and run simulations, primarily in the fluids domain, with exposure to thermals, acoustics, structures, and dynamic mechanical systems. - Work with cross‑functional teams to quickly translate project requirements into effective simulation models. - Validate and test models to ensure accuracy and reliability. - Interpret simulation results and deliver clear, actionable insights to stakeholders. - Stay current with emerging simulation tools and techniques, actively exploring and implementing new approaches. - Maintain up‑to‑date documentation for models, methods, and processes. - Communicate findings and recommendations confidently, both in writing and verbally.
What we're looking for
- Masters degree in mechanical, aeromechanical, or related engineering field. - Chartered engineer status or working toward Chartership is desirable. - Extensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience, ideally using Ansys tools. - Skilled in coding and mathematical modelling (MATLAB, Simulink, Python). - Proven ability to validate simulations with real‑world data. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to convey complex information clearly. - Adaptable, proactive, and eager to learn new tools and techniques. - Well‑organised, able to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time. - Engaged and solution‑focused, with a drive to take ownership of complex challenges.
