Overview

Are you ready to take the next step in your emergency nursing career? We are looking for a dynamic, compassionate, and experienced registered nurse to join our fast-paced Emergency Department as a Band 6.

As a Band 6 in ED, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across all areas of the department, including triage, minors, majors, resus, and paediatrics. You’ll support the coordination of patient flow, support leading clinical shifts, mentor junior staff, and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Main responsibilities

* Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients across all areas of the Emergency Department, including minors, majors, resuscitation, and paediatrics.
* Act as a clinical leader and role model, supporting the safe delivery of care and the coordination of patient flow during shifts.
* Undertake triage and initial assessment of patients, identifying those at risk of deterioration and initiating appropriate interventions.
* Support and supervise junior staff, students, and newly qualified nurses, promoting a positive learning environment.
* Participate in audits, quality improvement projects, and service development initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and experience.
* Escalate concerns appropriately and contribute to clinical decision-making and safe discharge planning.
* Contribute to effective team working, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
* Support the Senior Team by assisting with staffing, escalations, and operational awareness.
* Maintain own professional development and compliance with mandatory training, revalidation, and clinical competencies.

Duties include

* Assist and support the Senior Sister/Charge nurse in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
* Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
* Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
* Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines.
* Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
* Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
* Promote provision of patient education and health promotion
* Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
* Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
* To participate in education and training of junior staff.
* Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice
