Main duties of the job

1. To deputise for the Head of Nursing and provide strong leadership & role modelling to staff.
2. Provide operational & strategic input to the Directorate to ensure high quality, women centred care is delivered.
3. Play a key part in supporting Quality Governance with the mobilisation of the initiative from the women’s review across the women’s, the mobilisation of the WHHs across the women’s prisons,developing a culture of learning across the service and division.
4. Focus on mobilising & developing a women centred clinical model, WHH education & training programme for nursing staff across H&J services,to ensure that the nursing workforce is equipped with the right skills to deliver a high standard of care to the patient population.
5. Lead on the development,implementation & evaluation of WHHs to include competency & training programmes that will lead to an embedded culture of learning & continual professional development within the service.
6. Act as the operational link pin during the mobilisation/transformation to work with HMPPS,patients & stakeholders on the successful roll out of the recommendations in the Women’s Review.
7. Collaborate stakeholders that interface with H&J services to support the successful role out of the WHHs.
8. Be responsible for operationalising the recommendations as outlined in the Women’s Review advise and support the projects across the three Surrey prisons & offer advice & support to East Sutton Park in Kent in liaison with the commissioner & lead provider.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL DUTIES

Quality and Patient Experience:

· To support the Quality Governance agenda including embedding WHH governance structures and agreed patient pathways, incidents, serious incident management, investigations and monitoring

· Responsible for leading on WHH educational and clinical audit across the Service.

· To support clinical leads with assurance on the Care Quality Commission Key Lines of enquiry.

· To contribute to the peer review and assurance processes within the Division in partnership with service leads.

· To involve service users in the quality assurance process and service development initiatives.

· To work with clinical leads and clinical governance in identifying patterns in clinical incident reporting and develop educational strategies to mitigate risk where appropriate.

· To support clinical leads with national and organisational drivers and agendas within the Health and Justice directorate.

· Analyse data received relating to the women’s specific healthcare national agenda, ensuring timely verbal and written updates, reports and proposals as required in relation to clinical learning and WHH model development

· To promote and embed the WHH pathway across all women’s services

· To embed a culture of learning from incidents, serious incidents, PPO reports, complaints and inspections with frontline staff

Leadership and Management:

· To be a visible, credible nursing leader fostering a culture which values continuing professional development and strives for excellence in the delivery of patient care and quality improvement.

· Deputise for the Head of Nursing for Health and Justice as required

· Support the Head of Nursing for Health and Justice and Divisional Director of Nursing and lead on identified nursing quality issues

· To promote Health and Justice nursing and care through research, publications, presentations, representing Health and Justice, the Division at local and national forums as indicated

· Responsible for maintaining the service mentor register, to ensure NMC requirements are met.

· To develop a NMC registration database for all Health and Justice nurses

· To support registered staff through the NMC revalidation and registration process.

· To receive and facilitate clinical supervision.

· Support staff to regularly reflect on their practice through the engagement in clinical supervision and monitor its provision.

· To develop and participate in the delivery of a Women’s centred training package for healthcare staff.

· To provide support and training to teams to achieve Health & Justice Indicators of Performance, Key Performance Indicator and other outcome measures.
