The Role:
This role is part of our Sensor Systems Business Unit in Fareham. We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Operational Buyer to join our procurement team. The Operational Buyer will ensure the smooth flow of materials for production, maintain optimal inventory levels, and build strong relationships with suppliers. The ideal candidate will understand procurement processes, possess excellent negotiation skills, and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Procurement Planning:
o Collaborate with production planners to develop procurement plans aligned with schedules and inventory targets.
o Monitor inventory levels and initiate purchase orders to maintain optimal stock while minimizing excess.
2. Supplier Management:
o Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for capability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
o Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure favorable agreements.
o Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery and resolve issues.
3. Purchase Order Processing:
o Generate accurate purchase orders with all necessary information.
o Track deliveries and address discrepancies or delays to prevent production disruptions.
4. Continuous Improvement:
o Identify opportunities to streamline procurement, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
o Leverage technology and best practices for procurement operations and inventory management.
5. Compliance and Risk Management:
o Ensure procurement activities comply with policies and regulations.
o Assess and mitigate risks related to suppliers, market fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Proven procurement experience, preferably in manufacturing or electrical assembly.
* Strong negotiation skills to drive cost savings and value.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Analytical mindset with data analysis and problem-solving skills.
* Knowledge of ERP and procurement software preferred.
* Understanding of electrical components and manufacturing processes is a plus.
* Procurement or supply chain management certification (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) is desirable.
