Professional Lead/Consultant Psychologist - OPMHS

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist to provide professional, clinical, and strategic leadership across Older People's Mental Health Services.

This is a senior leadership role for a psychologist who is passionate about advancing psychologically informed care for older adults experiencing functional mental health difficulties. The role combines advanced clinical practice, professional leadership, and service development.

The post holder will play a key role in shaping the psychological model within older people's services and ensuring that care is trauma-informed, formulation-driven, and evidence-based.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across community and inpatient pathways, supporting psychologically informed practice and contributing to the strategic direction of older people's mental health provision across the Trust.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for a senior clinical psychologist with substantial post-qualification experience in older people's mental health services who is comfortable working at both strategic and clinical levels, influencing systems while remaining grounded in psychologically informed practice.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine commitment to the well being of patients, families, staff, and the wider system. They will be able to support teams to work autonomously while also providing containment, guidance, and psychological perspective when services are under pressure. We are seeking someone who can navigate the inevitable ups and downs of complex services with flexibility, resilience, and curiosity.

The successful candidate will:

* Provide clinical and professional leadership for the Older People's Psychology Service.
* Lead the development and implementation of psychologically informed models of care across services.
* Offer consultation and supervision to Older People's Mental Health Teams across the service.
* Lead on service development, innovation, and quality improvement, ensuring alignment with national guidance and best practice.
* Contribute to strategic planning and operational leadership within Older People's Mental Health Services.
* Support research, evaluation, and outcome monitoring to enhance service effectiveness.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Qualifications and Knowledge

* Post-graduate doctoral level training in psychology or its equivalent as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology
* Current HCPC Registration
* Expert theoretical and practical knowledge of a range of clinical interventions, procedures and practices relevant to the clinical area
* Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of advanced specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with disabilities and severely challenging behaviour


Experience

* Significant assessed experience of working as a registered psychologist, to include a significant period of working/clinically specialising at a senior level in the field where the post is held
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
* Demonstrable experience of working across team/organisational boundaries developing and maintaining multi-professional and multi-agency partnerships

* Be able to demonstrate leadership/management skills at an advanced level
* Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
* Able to demonstrate effective communication skills at all levels i.e. strategically and locally
