Saltwood Ward - Male low secure ward
The hospital's services have been requested and agreed by local and regional NHS bodies to meet the urgent demand for specialist mental health services within Kent. The aim is to ensure that local people can be treated close to home and as near as possible to their friends and family.
Summary of the ward:
Roseacre Ward is a 16-bed personality disorder service for women, based at Cygnet Hospital Maidstone, situated in the Kent Medical Campus. The service aims to support service users in managing their mental health, developing coping strategies, reinforcing daily living skills, and preparing for a return to independent living. It provides a care pathway for those preparing to step down to community living and adopts a recovery-focused model.
Role of Occupational Therapist:
You will provide direct clinical care, including assessments, treatment, and management of patients within the service. Your responsibilities include assessing, implementing, and developing an OT-led service tailored to service users' needs, focusing on community living and functional skills.
Multidisciplinary Team:
The team comprises a consultant psychiatrist, specialty doctor, occupational therapist, psychotherapist, assistant psychologist, social worker, registered mental health nurses, and healthcare assistants.
Caseload and Support:
There are 16 beds on the ward. You will supervise a full-time Occupational Therapy Assistant and receive monthly supervision from an experienced OT, along with weekly 1:1 meetings with your supervisor.
Team Composition:
The occupational therapy team includes a qualified OT, Senior OT, and Head OT, along with four OT Assistants. The team is supportive and committed to your professional development.

The ward features a sensory room, an integral part of supporting patients in emotional regulation.
Occupational Therapy Directorate:
Led by occupational therapy directors, the group supports over 150 OTs, fostering a collaborative environment with opportunities for involvement in service development and specialist interest groups.

Salary: £32,883 (up to £35,465 after preceptorship)
