Overview
A global leader in actuarial and reinsurance services is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the Basis Development team within their Research & Development division. This role offers an opportunity to influence key actuarial assumptions across various markets, including Savings & Retirement and Protection in the UK, Netherlands, USA, Canada, and Australia, during a period of significant growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the development and maintenance of base and trend assumptions for longevity and protection markets across multiple regions.
2. Manage and mentor a team of 4 actuaries, fostering their professional growth through coaching and development.
3. Collaborate with senior leadership to align assumptions with strategic business objectives and ensure timely delivery.
4. Develop and implement process improvements to enhance scalability and standardization.
5. Work closely with Medical Analytics, Strategic Analytics, and biometric teams to ensure assumptions are fit for purpose across all business areas.
6. Drive research initiatives within the team, allocating time for innovation and exploration of new methods.
7. Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization, serving as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
1. Qualified Fellow of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries (or equivalent) with at least 4 years post-qualification experience.
2. Proven experience in basis development, either within a pricing or basis-setting team or a review function.
3. Strong understanding of longevity insurance and/or protection reinsurance markets.
4. Ability to implement new approaches and develop scalable processes adaptable to business growth.
5. Exceptional communication skills, capable of presenting complex information to senior leaders and collaborating with diverse teams.
6. Willingness to learn or experience with software such as SQL, Tableau, and R.
7. Experience in people management with a focus on developing and mentoring junior actuaries.
