Description
Torbay Children’s Services is seeking to recruit a creative and innovative educational psychologist to expand its existing team of skilled and friendly staff, as we develop and grow. We welcome applications for candidates seeking a part time role. The preferred start date would be as soon as possible but can be negotiated subject to pre‑employment checks.
We are interested in hearing from experienced EPs, those at an earlier stage of their career and trainees currently on educational psychology doctoral training programmes. We warmly welcome applications from trainees qualifying in September 2026.
The Educational Psychology Service is a highly valued team within the local authority. We seek to offer a balanced workload of traded and statutory work and are pleased to offer the opportunity to be part of projects focussed on early identification and prevention. We offer a consultation‑based model of service delivery, alongside opportunities for in‑depth casework, systemic work and time to further develop professional interests, wherever possible. We promote solution‑focused, person‑centred approaches and co‑production with our partner agencies to facilitate positive change.
The successful applicant will be a highly valued member of our service. We can offer you:
* Soulbury Scale 3-8 Plus up to 3 SPA.
* Generous leave entitlement.
* Opportunities to deliver ELSA training and supervision.
* Flexibility of working practices.
* Being part of a broad multi‑disciplinary integrated local team, working closely with SEN case officers, our virtual school, vulnerable pupils’ team, early years practitioners and our sensory impairment teams.
* Additional supervision and support for NQEP’s.
* Access to staff networks that are open to staff, councillors and partners who share similar characteristics, life experiences, values, and beliefs.
Applicants must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or, in the case of trainee EP’s, expect to have their registration confirmed following completion of their recognised training course.
We are an inclusive and diverse employer, reflecting the community we serve, and we particularly welcome applications from all under‑represented groups.
Torbay Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.
For an informal chat please contact Alex Ashraf on alex.ashraf@torbay.gov.uk, or Dr Lorraine O'Callaghan on 07795 121027 or lorraine.ocallaghan@torbay.gov.uk.
