An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Division of medicine on M1 for a dedicated, enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced nurse to join our dynamic, patient‑focused team, as the permanent Ward Manager.
M1 includes 30 bedded area for medically stable patient waiting for supported discharges.
The ideal candidate will confidently and supportively lead the team and share our passion for delivering the highest quality care, providing excellent patient experience and will be committed to continuous improvement.
Main duties of the job
The post will be pivotal in providing the clinical expertise required to ensure safe and effective inpatient care and is of the highest standards. You must be able to demonstrate a good level of enquiry, excellent communication and organisational skills with good knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and current NHS issues.
* Day‑to‑day management of the Ward, co‑ordinating, allocating and prioritising the workload so that staff and resources are used efficiently, contributing to the smooth running of the ward.
* Training, supervision and appraisal of team.
* Ensuring safe staffing levels, producing a safe fair and effective roster and managing sickness and absence in line with the Trust’s attendance management policy.
* Maintain and monitor systems for ensuring staff compliance with mandatory training.
* Collaborate with all members of the wider team to ensure efficient running of the ward and safe patient journey.
* Have oversight of the ward budget and monitoring and control of expenditure and use of resources.
* Further line management responsibilities – including formal disciplinary, grievances and other meetings relevant to your management role.
Essential for this post is a minimum of 5 years post registration experience and minimum of 2 years leadership experience or equivalent.
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
* Current NMC registration
* Post registration course in speciality
* Degree or working towards degree level
* A minimum of 5 years post registration experience
* A minimum of 2 years leadership experience; specifically in the speciality setting
Desirable criteria
* Holds registered mentor or teaching qualification
* Working towards masters level study
* Clinical supervision experience
* Experience of working with electronic health records
* Experience of the peri‑operative setting
Knowledge and Skills

* IT skills (Word/Excel/Outlook)
* Budget management skills
* Ability to plan and prioritise own and others workload when under pressure
* Excellent communications skills
* Evidence of working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team

* Sound knowledge of the principles and practice of speciality care
