The Role As a Surveyor (Land & Topographical), you will play a crucial role in capturing accurate survey data to support the delivery of our rail and civil engineering schemes. You will independently undertake land and topographical surveys, ensuring high standards of accuracy, data integrity and compliance with project requirements. You will integrate advanced survey technologies, including total stations, GNSS, laser scanning and BIM methodologies, to optimise project delivery. The role includes collaboration across CAD, BIM and Design teams, providing high-quality outputs and supporting efficient engineering design. You will also contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, safety culture and the development of junior team members. Key Responsibilities Conduct accurate land and topographical surveys, including gauging and laser scanning Process and transform survey data into deliverables such as plans, reports, 3D models and digital datasets Ensure data integrity, compliance with standards and alignment with project objectives Manage surveys independently and coordinate effectively with internal departments Implement safety protocols, undertake risk assessments and promote safe working practices Operate Trimble and Leica total stations, GNSS and scanning equipment Work with N4ce Designer, AutoCAD and CDE platforms such as ProjectWise Support BIM integration by ensuring survey outputs meet required digital standards Maintain clear documentation, records and reporting Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including design teams, contractors and clients Provide guidance and day-to-day support to Trainee Surveyors About You You bring strong technical capability, a proactive and solutions-focused mindset, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. Skills Required Surveying equipment operation (total stations, GNSS, laser scanning) CAD, survey processing and BIM-related digital workflows Qualifications Required Level 5 qualification (e.g., HNC/HND) in a relevant discipline — ideally RICS or CICES accredited Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification CSCS card Membership or progress towards a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CICES) Full UK driving licence Experience Demonstrable experience in a similar surveying role (civil engineering environment preferred) Demonstrated proficiency in land, topo and laser scanning surveys Working knowledge of survey software (N4ce, AutoCAD) and CDE systems Personal Attributes Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration Ability to identify and solve technical challenges Enthusiasm for innovation, continuous improvement and learning A team-focused approach with the ability to support junior colleagues If you’re ready to take on a key technical role where your expertise directly contributes to successful project delivery, and where your career can grow, we’d love to hear from you.
