Hourly rate of pay: £19.45 - £21.75.
The pay scale for this post is £35,494 - £39,692. Consideration will be given to place the successful candidate on a higher point of the advertised salary scale, depending on relevant experience and transferable skills.
Temporary for 18 months.
To start 1st April 2026.
Days and Hours of Work
Monday - Friday, 09:00-17:00. Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible.

Position Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Roads Officer to deliver transport planning support to the Sustainable Travel team within East Lothian Council Roads Services. The role involves transport planning, designing and costing sustainable travel works packages using AutoCAD, and operating with Asset Management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to optimise resources and maintain road infrastructure in line with the Code of Practice.
Responsibilities
* Support the delivery and development of the full range of duties within Road Services, maximising efficiency, meeting standards and approved budgets.
* Use AutoCAD to design and cost sustainable travel works packages.
* Utilise the Asset Management System and GIS to optimise resources.
* Assess, review, prioritise and prepare orders; supervise works on site by internal labour or external contractors, ensuring compliance with contract documentation and best practice.
* Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary technical staff, the public and non‑technical stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
* Educated to HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through experience.
* Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish good working relationships.
* Current driving licence and access to a vehicle.
