Responsible to: Family Support and Art Therapy Co-ordinator Hours: Sessional hours as required Location:Fermanagh Therapeutic Cancer Support Centre Remuneration: £50.00 per hour About Cancer Focus Northern Ireland Cancer Focus NI is the local Northern Ireland cancer champion, supporting families who have been affected by cancer. Our Therapeutic Cancer Support Centres are staffed by experts in cancer care and provide a welcoming environment easily accessible by those living in the locality, providing free cancer support and information to both patients and their families or loved ones as they deal with a cancer diagnosis. We work closely with the NHS and the local community, striving to raise awareness of cancer prevention, and offering practical support and a confidential listening ear. Our ambition is to be there for anyone living with a cancer diagnosis in Northern Ireland, ensuring all can access expert support, advice and the help needed to have the best quality of life for both those with cancer and their families. About the Role Cancer Focus Northern Ireland are seeking to engage a qualified and experienced Art Therapist to deliver art therapy sessions for people whose lives have been affected by cancer. The sessions will be delivered at our new Therapeutic Cancer Support Centre in Fermanagh. Key Responsibilities To deliver art therapy sessions within Cancer Focus Northern Irelands Fermanagh Therapeutic Cancer Support Centre To deliver 1-1 art therapy sessions to clients impacted by cancer. These could be child or adult cases To facilitate time bound, art therapy groups as required To support in the development of a professional, comprehensive, holistic, art therapy service To assess the persons needs using person centred, evidence-based approaches To plan and implement therapeutic interventions or re-refer to other services as appropriate To assist with the evaluation of the effectiveness of the service through regular review and audit To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with shared goals, objectives, and vision To adhere to the Code of Ethics of Professional Practice of the British Association of Art Therapists and the standards of conduct, performance, and ethics of the health care professions council (HCPC) To participate in regular external clinical supervision, show evidence of indemnity insurance and self-employment status. Person Specification The below specification shows the essential skills, abilities, knowledge and/or qualifications required to be able to carry out the duties of this post. Essential Criteria Qualifications Registered Art Therapist with the Health Care Professions Council. Experience At least two years post qualification experience as an Art Therapist Experience of facilitating a range of groups Experience of working with patients with a cancer diagnosis and people impacted by cancer Demonstrable evidence of experience and ability to develop and build good working relationships with individuals and organisations Experience with administrative and ICT systems, including the use of databases. Skills Excellent Verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills Ability to work with participants with complex emotional and psychological needs Ability to plan, develop and facilitate groups Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries in all matters related to their work Ability to ethically work with risk and safeguarding issues Ability to build good working relationships with individuals and organisations To be IT proficient including in the use of spreadsheets and databases. Personal Qualities Committed to supporting people affected by cancer Committed to further learning and training Empathetic and supportive Ability to use own initiative Enthusiasm, drive and commitment to continuous improvement Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Other Access to an appropriate form of transport to facilitate occasional working at other locations across Northern Ireland. Desirable Criteria Qualifications Membership of the British Association of Art Therapists Additional Information Terms and Conditions The activities of this role meet the Access NI definition of regulated activity as outlined in the Access NI Code of Practice. Cancer Focus NI will obtain an Access NI Enhanced check for the successful individual.
