Job Description
Nestrans, the North East Scotland Transport Partnership works with local government representatives and non-councillor members drawn from diverse backgrounds and with different perspectives to take a strategic approach to transport that supports and helps improve the economy, environment and quality of life across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Our website is The Nestrans Board is made up of four councillors each of Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils, and four non-councillor members appointed in a personal capacity. A vacancy currently exists for a non-councillor board member and applications are invited from interested individuals with the necessary aptitude, experience and ability to help shape the future development of the transport strategy and delivery at regional level.
One of Nestrans’ primary functions is to produce and deliver a Regional Transport Strategy. The current strategy aims to provide a safer, cleaner, more inclusive, accessible and resilient transport system in the North East, which protects the natural and built environment and contributes to healthier, more prosperous and fairer communities. The strategy has a focus on the following key themes:
1. Economic Prosperity;
2. Environment;
3. Health and Well-Being; and
4. Equality
Experience within (or a keen interest for) one or more of these areas would be an advantage, in addition to a knowledge of transport and financial awareness. Whilst knowledge of working at board/strategic level is a benefit, allowances will be made for the right candidate if they have passion for the subject and can clearly demonstrate what they can bring to the Board.
Board membership is not a paid role, however certain expenses can be met.
The successful applicant will be expected to attend five board meetings a year with the possibility of additional informal meetings/workshops. Appointment will be for a period of up to five years, subject to review after three years, from the date of appointment.
