About us

About the Misbourne:

The Misbourne is an 11-18 mixed school single-academy trust in the picturesque village of Great Missenden in the heart of the Chilterns. We have over 1100 students on roll, including a successful and growing Sixth Form. In summer 2024 our students achieved Progress 8 of +0.30, making us one of the top non-selective schools in the County. We are proudly non-selective and inclusive, ensuring that we live and breathe our values: we are a community that values learning, promotes kindness and strives for excellence in all we do. We are the Lead School for Careers in Bucks, and a member of the Challenge Partners network.

Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally. As our greatest asset, we place great emphasis on staff wellbeing, detailed in our Wellbeing Charter.

Excerpts from our successful 2022 Ofsted inspection include:

1. Pupils told inspectors that the clear and fair behaviour system helps them to behave well.
2. Relationships between staff and pupils are strong.
3. Pupils' conduct around the school is orderly and calm.
4. Pastoral care puts the child at the heart of everything the school does

We can offer you:

5. An academy that puts wellbeing at the top of their priorities, detailed in our Wellbeing Charter
6. Students who are a pleasure to work with
7. Great training and development opportunities
8. An experienced, friendly and collaborative team of staff
9. A two-week October half-term
10. A fortnightly 'Flexi-PPA' with a late start (10.10am) or early finish (1.30pm); and annual personal 'Headspace Day'
11. Free access to our own fully-fitted gym
12. Free on-site parking

We are not just offering a job, we are offering a career adventure.

About the role

We are looking to recruit an exceptional Curriculum Leader of Mathematics to start September 2026 or earlier. This role will provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious practitioner wishing to further develop their career, to lead others, build upon an existing track record of success within a Maths Department and to make a real impact on further driving up attainment and progress in Maths education. This role will be ideal for someone with previous leadership experience, although this is not essential.

At The Misbourne, you will become part of a vibrant learning community that will offer you fantastic opportunities for CPD and career progression. We provide extensive support, mentoring and coaching with career development opportunities. You will be joining a supportive, dedicated and collaborative group of middle leaders, who meet regularly to share pedagogy and collaborate on school development.

About you

Who are we looking for?

13. A calm individual who can foster positive relationships rapidly
14. A supportive leader who can coach, mentor and direct colleagues
15. An excellent Teacher of Mathematics, who has a love for the subject and is excited to further develop their skills
16. A student-centred practitioner who is aligned to our academy's values.

You will be leading a successful Maths department, all maths specialists, supported by your Assistant Curriculum Leader; this is a department with good GCSE results, and Maths is a popular A-level subject at The Misbourne. Each year we have students achieving top grades at both GCSE and A-level. We have a fully planned and resourced centralised curriculum, and we have dedicated development time across the year so that the team can collaboratively plan and talk about teaching, continuing to develop professionally and reducing workload.

The dedicated Maths building has brand new Promethean boards in every classroom; we are a Google school, with one-to-one Chromebook devices.

We place strong emphasis on three core values: learning, kindness, and excellence. We are seeking a candidate who shares these values and is eager to not only improve their own teaching practice but also contribute to our department's ongoing growth and success. We firmly believe that effective teaching goes hand in hand with building strong relationships with students, and our educators play a pivotal role in instilling a passion for mathematics in our students. If you are dedicated to promoting learning, kindness, and excellence in the classroom, and are excited about the prospect of inspiring students to embrace the world of mathematics, we encourage you to apply!
