NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

Support the safe and effective supply, dispensing, accuracy checking and preparation of medicines, including high-cost items, controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines, aseptic products and clinical trial materials in line with national guidelines, SOPs and regulatory requirements.

1. Manage stock control processes, including ordering, receipting, storage, returns, recalls, expiry date checking and investigation of discrepancies.
2. Support patient care by taking medication histories, providing medicines information and patient education, and contributing to safe and timely discharge processes.
3. Contribute to aseptic services, including preparation, environmental monitoring, validations and inprocess checks, following GMP, QA, QC and health & safety standards.
4. Supervise, train and support Pharmacy Support Workers and preregistration Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists and assist with staff induction.
5. Ensure compliance with NHSGGC policies, professional standards, clinical governance, audit requirements and continual professional development.
6. Communicate effectively with pharmacy colleagues, ward staff, suppliers and external partners to support safe, efficient service delivery.
7. Participate in weekend and public holiday working in line with local arrangements.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, full-time at 36 hours per week.

You should be prepared to work 5/7 days and participate in weekend working, extended hours service and public holiday service.

NHSGGC Pharmacy Services are looking for highly motivated and proactive registered Pharmacy Technicians to join our friendly and supportive teams across a number of acute sites including:

8. Queen Elizabeth University Hospital & Royal Hospital for Children

Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9.30-5pm and Tuesday & Thursday 9-5pm. Or Mon, Wed & Fri 11-6.30pm and Tue & Thurs 10.30-6.30pm.

9. Gartnavel General Hospital (North Sector)

Monday Friday 8:45-5pm (4:30 Wednesday)

10. The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

5/7 including public holidays

11. Royal Alexandra Hospital

Monday Friday 0918-1700

12. Glasgow Royal Infirmary (North Sector)

Key responsibilities:

Essential

13. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
14. Ability to communicate in clear spoken English and effective written and verbal communication.
15. Good IT Skills including MS Office Word and Excel.
16. A commitment to participate in ongoing relevant training and continual professional development (CPD).
17. Experience of interacting with people in a variety of situations.
18. Ability to organise daily tasks using own initiative.
19. Ability to work to set procedures.
20. Stock management experience.
21. Ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable

22. A commitment to achieving an accredited accuracy checking qualification.
23. Experience of supervising/training/mentoring staff.
24. Experience of working in hospital pharmacy or aseptic services however full training will be provided.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential

25. UK Registered Pharmacy Technician (General Pharmaceutical Council .)
26. Completed current GPhC approved competency and knowledge based qualifications e.g. S/NVQ Pharmacy Level 3 and NC Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professional Development Award (PDA) in Pharmacy Services at SCQF Level 7 and Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Pharmacy Services at SCQF Level 8 and a qualifying period of work experience.
27. Good IT Skills including MS Office Word and Excel
28. Ability to communicate in clear spoken English and effective written and verbal communication
29. A commitment to participate in ongoing relevant training and Continual Professional Development (CPD)
