Overview
Everest People Solutions are recruiting for an Environmental Officer. Reporting into the HSE Manager, this role will be responsible for supervising the site's environmental performance, ensuring that the treatment plant operates within discharge limits into the local river. Ensure compliance with the Environmental Permit and meet reporting deadlines. Serve as the deputy for the HSE Manager during their absence.
Key Duties & Responsibilities for the Environmental Officer
* Deliver a sustainability plan for the site.
* Monitor environmental performance against permit requirements and legislation.
* Coordinate pollution control, waste management, and renewable energy efforts.
* Support the site team in maintaining food safety and integrity.
* Ensure adherence to personal hygiene requirements.
* Assist in providing structured environmental training.
* Support occupational health and wellbeing initiatives.
* Promote a safe working culture.
* Uphold company values and facilitate effective communication.
* Adhere to H&S legislation and promote safety culture.
* Report incidents and ensure proper equipment usage.
* Assist in implementing continuous improvement techniques for operational excellence.
* Manage discharges to the local river and air, including waste management and pollution reduction.
* Ensure compliance with environmental standards and optimise energy usage.
* Act as an environmental champion and provide training.
* Keep abreast of environmental legislation changes and source environmentally friendly materials.
* Uphold Bird Welfare standards.
* Carry out any reasonable duty requested within the role.
Requirements for the Environmental Officer
Essential:
* Previous experience in Environmental and sustainability role
* Familiarity with handling external auditors.
* Experience with wastewater and water discharge consents.
* Proficiency in Word and Excel, including spreadsheet and database management.
* Capability to collaborate within a team and take initiative independently.
* Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Flexible and cooperative at all times.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Effective organisational skills and adeptness at implementing new processes.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
* Self-motivated with the ability to motivate staff at all levels.
Desirable:
* Membership with IEMA.
* Environmental qualification.
* Understanding of ISO 14001 standards and related clauses.
* Knowledge of Environmental permitting processes.
* Previous experience in Food Manufacturing, particularly in FMCG.
* Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement techniques.
