Role Overview
In the insurance audit team, we work with a wide range of businesses, from listed insurers (life and non‑life) to the top international insurance brokers, Lloyd’s syndicates and many more across the UK. The team has seen consistent growth in recent years, making it an exciting time to join as a Director in our Insurance Audit Group to support a rapidly expanding business.
Responsibilities
* Lead our most complex engagements reporting into your Partner.
* Assume signing responsibilities (subject to regulatory approval) on certain audit engagements.
* Supervise multi‑location teams (including specialists) to successfully execute engagements in accordance with Deloitte methodology and quality standards, and work to deadlines.
* Lead the change in driving our technological adoption and making continuous improvement in audit methodology.
* Actively engage with business development, including leading audit tenders, helping to develop Deloitte's insurance thought leadership to deliver insight to clients.
* Lead on other assurance projects drawing on your skills around accounting, controls and regulation.
* Assume people leadership responsibility including coaching, staff appraisals and overseeing practice management activities, including facilitation of internal training courses and leading community initiatives.
Qualifications
* Experienced Auditor with a relevant accounting qualification ACA, ACCA, CA, ICAS or equivalent.
* Life Insurance or Bulk Purchase Annuity sector experience gained through leading complex external audits and assurance engagements.
* Experience of leading diverse engagements and cross‑border audit teams, including specialists.
* Knowledge of auditing methodology including risk assessment, scoping, devising and audit approach, controls testing and substantive testing.
* Engagement and people leadership gained through overseeing large complex audits.
* Communication skills developed through report writing, presentation and interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proven ability to use initiative to investigate and resolve problems.
Personal Independence
Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. You and your Immediate Family Members are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds, etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and certain employment relationships are also prohibited (e.g., a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients). The recruitment team will provide further detail as you progress through the recruitment process, or you may contact the Independence team upon request.
Working Arrangement
The home office for this role is London, Bristol or Reading. We support a hybrid working policy that allows you to work flexibly across your local office, virtual collaboration spaces, client sites and remotely, with occasional face‑to‑face meetings as required.
